DCAF delivered the first segment of the European Security and Defence College core course on security sector reform in Vienna, Austria. Hosted within the Austrian Centre for Peace programme and supported by the Austrian Ministry of Defence, this seven-day training brought together over 30 professionals to explore the challenges, opportunities, and core principles of security sector governance and reform.
10 Jun 2025As Secretariat of the Montreux Document Forum, DCAF—together with IEPADES—is proud to support the development of Guatemala’s new draft Private Security Policy, officially presented in a ceremony led by Minister of the Interior Francisco Jiménez. This policy marks a major step forward in strengthening regulatory oversight of private security companies in Guatemala. It places a strong emphasis on regulation, training, and the rights and welfare of private security guards.
03 Jun 2025DCAF recently delivered a two-week international online course on security sector governance. The course aimed to strengthen the provision of security and justice for people around the world by equipping participants with foundational knowledge and practical tools. Participants explored key principles and actors of security sector governance and reform, examined real-world challenges from countries such as Somalia, Sri Lanka, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, The Gambia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and discussed approaches to stabilization policy.
27 May 2025DCAF carried out a mission to assess the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda within the armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mission involved meetings with senior officials, as well as workshops and focus group discussions with personnel. Field visits to military barracks offered a valuable opportunity to observe progress directly on the ground. The goal of this review was to identify both achievements and challenges, share lessons learned, and outline the next steps for advancing gender equality in the country.
23 May 2025DCAF delivered a security sector reform training session in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the 5th Course of the Ecole de Guerre de Kinshasa (EGK). This seminar, funded by France, gathered 27 officers coming from nine different countries. It trained senior officers with the tools and knowledge to carry out defence and security forces reforms in their own countries. DCAF has been supporting EGK for the past four years.
